Yes, it is possible to lose your faith
Pastor Mark Jeske

Of all the risks that God has taken in his creation of the world and its people, the biggest is in his desire to be loved. Love, you see, cannot be coerced. It must be given. In order for love to be given freely, people must have the ability not to give it.

Through his Old Testament prophets, God opens up his aching heart over people who should know better yet who are abandoning the faith they once had. What’s not to like about being God’s child? What’s not to like about enjoying complete forgiveness of your sins, daily Fatherly blessings, the protection of the angels, and immortality in heaven?

Well, Satan found life with God resistible, and he persuades God’s children to abandon him as well. Sad to say, it is possible to be a believer and then later in life to throw your faith away. Paul gave young Pastor Timothy some sad examples: “Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly. Their teaching will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, who have wandered away from the truth” (2 Timothy 2:16-18).

Jesus himself told Peter that he was praying his disciple’s faith wouldn’t fail (Luke 22:32). These solemn and serious warnings come to us so that we won’t become arrogant or careless or distracted. We need to be alert to Satan’s temptations so that his spiritual suicide won’t be ours.
