You Have the Mind of Christ
“What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us” (2 Corinthians 2:12).
You know what you are thinking, but no one else does. No one is able to read your mind. God did not equip any of us with that skill. Your thoughts remain with you until you decide to share them, or reveal them to another person.
Paul used this analogy to make a key point to us about God. In the same way, “no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God” (2 Corinthians 2:11).This presents a problem. You and I cannot figure out the mind of God through human intellect, logic or reason. Our finite minds are not capable of such an enormous undertaking.
As Paul wrote: "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him" (1 Corinthians 2:9). And when we do try to figure God out on our own, it sounds like foolishness to us.
Here is the good news. God does want you to know his mind. He wants you to understand exactly who he is and what he thinks about you. To make this possible, he sent His Spirit to take up residence in you so you can fully comprehend what He has "freely given" you in Christ.
This is why you had a hard time understanding the meaning of the Bible as an unbeliever. It didn’t make sense to you. The simple truth is that apart from God's Spirit, you could not comprehend the meaning of the Scriptures. But now the Spirit teaches you and guides you into all truth.
He takes the things of the Lord Jesus and makes them known to you. And no longer does it sound foolish. The Spirit enables you to know and experience the message of Christ as both the power of God and the wisdom of God.
In a word, through the Spirit of God, you now have the mind of Christ.
Concerning the Word of God, you have the best teacher living inside of you. And he knows the deep things of God. As you read the Bible, trust the Spirit of God to reveal the meaning to you. The next time you open the Bible, do so with an attitude of dependence and expectance, knowing that God’s Spirit will open your eyes to see and experience the truth that will set you free.
