Death no longer has dominion over him.
“We know that Christ being raised from the dead will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him.” Romans 6:9
Jesus was raised from the dead.
He is alive.
He will never die again. This means death no longer has dominion over him. It also means that the life he lives he lives to God. Paul explained: “The death he died he died to sin, once and for all, but the life he lives he lives to God” (Romans 6:10).
Now this is all true of Jesus.
But, what about you? What is true of you as a child of God?
Well here is your story as Paul writes it:
We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life (Romans 6:4).
You have been baptized, or placed into Christ’s death, burial and resurrection. You are identified with Christ. And He is identified with you. Which means…
- You have been set free from sin
- Sin is no longer your master
- Death no longer has dominion over you
- Because he lives, you live.
That’s good news!
You are in Christ. And Christ is in you. Therefore… Count yourself dead to sin, and alive to God in Christ Jesus. It’s true.

"Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ's sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed" (1 Peter 4:12, 13).
