Everything else is worthless when compared with the priceless gain of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord (Philippians 3:8).
One day Linda walked into her bank to cash a large check. Her position in the line eventually took her to a teller whose face was not familiar. Linda wondered if the woman would approve the check.
"Do you have some form of identification?" the teller inquired.
"Yes," Linda replied, as she searched for her check guarantee card in her wallet. Just then the bank manager strolled by.
"Hi, Linda!" he greeted, then told the teller, "Don't worry. Linda is who she says she is. She's a close friend of mine."
Deep and lasting friendships make our lives more complete, fulfilling and worthwhile. We have all learned to invest time and energy in these relationships to keep them healthy and strong. But what could be more rewarding than to nurture a personal and intimate relationship with our wonderful Lord Jesus Christ?
Anyone who studies God's holy Word can gain intellectual knowledge about God. But one must receive Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and Lord to really have an intimate relationship with Him.
Isn't it amazing that we can have a close, personal friendship with the Creator of the Universe? The world does not have a clue what Christianity is really all about, or else they would run to Christ, to know Him and to serve Him. And unfortunately, many Christians are not much better off.
How important is it to know Christ? Paul answers: "Everything else is worthless when compared with the priceless gain of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I may have Christ and become one with him. I no longer count on my own goodness or my ability to obey God's law, but I trust Christ to save me. For God's way of making us right with himself depends on faith. As a result, I can really know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead" (Philippians 3:8-10, NLT)
In second Peter chapter 1, verse 2, we read, "May God bless you with his special favor and wonderful peace as you come to know Jesus, our God and Lord, better and better" (NLT).
That is my prayer for you: That you would come to know Him "better and better."
Yours for fulfilling the Great Commission each year until our Lord returns,
