Peace In Facing Death
I know the one in whom I trust, and I am sure that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until the day of his return (2 Timothy 1:12).
A godly associate and his wife were faced with the eminent danger of death of the husband.
Naturally, it was a time of crisis and soul searching. They had both served the Lord for many years, and for a moment in their anguish, their grief and their anxiety, they forgot that we who are believers live for eternity -- not for time, but for eternity.
Then on reflection, they remembered all of the many things that God had enabled them to do for His kingdom and for His glory. This far exceeded the temporary inconvenience and physical incapacities that they were both experiencing.
As they began to meditate on the promises of God and to claim His peace of heart and mind, they began to see more clearly how God had given them the great privilege of investing their lives for eternity and that they would leave behind a legacy of thousands of people who had been influenced for the glory of God.
The trials, the testings, the hurts, the fears, and the anxieties were all dispelled by a new sense of joy, hope, peace of heart, and peace of mind as they thought in terms of eternity and not time.
They began to experience that supernatural peace "that transcends all understanding" (Philippians 4:7, NIV) as they looked at their situation from God's point of view.
That is one of the great blessings of being a child of God through faith in His Son. We see and understand things with the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16). We have an eternal mindset and are no longer captives of time. We have hope. We know who we are and where we are going. Our lives have purpose and meaning. We know that what we have committed to Christ and have done for Him will have eternal consequences.
"I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day" (2 Timothy 1:12, KJV).
Contrast that with the multitudes of people who do not know God, who do not know about His great love and mercy, who do not know about His Word, who do not know about His many promises, and who are ignorant of His plan for their lives in the great scheme of His magnificent plan for all of His creation, and who die to enter into a Christless eternity.
Let us count our many blessings, and also be diligent to help tell the whole world about our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.
Yours for fulfilling the Great Commission each year until our Lord returns,
