The joy of the LORD is your strength! (Nehemiah 8:10).
My very busy days have always been filled with excitement, joy, wonder and amazement as I walk with our risen Lord in the power of the Holy Spirit.
The following schedule gives a clue of how I have lived for more than 50 years, although because of physical challenges I have recently slowed a bit.
I was in Washington D. C. to address the administrative assistants of about 25 Congressmen and Senators. I awakened at about five in the morning, packed, and rushed to the Capitol to give my talk.
From there I flew to New York City, where I met with several staff members and pastors to consider launching an evangelistic effort in that area.
Then I caught a flight to Detroit and addressed a conference in Ann Arbor. I spoke twice that evening, getting to bed somewhere around 1 a.m. the next morning.
A few hours later I was flying back to our offices in Arrowhead Springs, California to participate in a seminar for Christian businessmen and their wives. I spoke three times and right after that I had to leave for Manila in the Philippines.
From there, I traveled to Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Taipei for other speaking engagements.
I'm often asked, "How can you carry on such an incredible schedule and still be full of energy and joy?"
The answer is that Jesus Christ is alive and living within me. He is the one who gives me my spiritual, mental, and physical energy. When we have Christ, His Holy Spirit gives us all we need to live a supernatural Christian life!
If I tried to maintain such a busy schedule in my own strength I would have ran out of steam many years ago. We just cannot serve the Lord in our own strength. As a matter of fact, we read in Romans 8:7: "The old sinful nature within us is against God. It never did obey God's laws and it never will" (LB).
In one large city, I was speaking at a meeting to which several hundred laymen and students. At the conclusion of one of my lectures, a leading layman came running down the aisle. He said, "This is the greatest thing I have ever heard in my life. Today I have been liberated. I am now on 12 boards of various Christian organizations, including a couple in my church. I have been trying to serve God so diligently that I have practically ignored my business and my family. Now you tell me that the Christian life is not what we do for God, but what we allow Him to do in and through us. You say the Christian life is a supernatural life, that no one can live it but Christ, and that this life is by faith through the power of the Holy Spirit. I have been trying to serve God in the energy of the flesh. I understand now why I have been so miserable and so unproductive!"
God's wonderful truths are so liberating and energizing!
Yours for fulfilling the Great Commission each year until our Lord returns,
