To Really Live!
I have been given complete authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age (Matthew 28:18-20).
When Vonette and I first surrendered our lives to Christ to become His slaves, we were deeply stirred by our Lord's challenge recorded in Mark 8, where He said, "If any of you wants to be my follower, you must put aside your own pleasures, and shoulder your cross, and follow me closely. If you insist on saving your life you will lose it. Only those who throw away their lives for my sake and for the sake of the Good News WILL EVER KNOW WHAT IT MEANS TO REALLY LIVE" (emphasis supplied, TLB).
To really live! Vonette and I had known a very exciting life for two years of marriage, but here was a promise that exceeded everything we had experienced.
I have asked millions of believers in Christ all over the world: "What is the greatest thing that has ever happened to you in all of your life?" The answer is always the same: "Knowing Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord is the most important thing that has ever happened to me."
Then I ask: "What is the greatest thing you could do to help somebody else?" The answer, of course, is obvious: "To introduce them to Jesus Christ."
Introducing others to Christ was an early passion of both Vonette and myself. Approximately 24 hours after signing that contract with the Lord, God gave us a specific call to help to fulfill the Great Commission given by our Lord as recorded in Matthew, chapter 28. Jesus said: "I have been given all authority in heaven and earth. Therefore go and make disciples in all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and then teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you: and be sure of this -- that I am with you always, even to the end of the world."
By God's grace, and with His help, Vonette and I and the wonderful team at Campus Crusade for Christ have had the privilege of helping to train literally millions of Christians in thousands of churches of all denominations and thousands of missions groups. Together we have been able to share the gospel with more than 6 billion people in the past 50 years - over 2.5 billion is the last two years.
But billions more have since been born and are waiting for someone to tell them "the most joyful news ever announced" -- the truth about God and His love and forgiveness through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Yours for fulfilling the Great Commission each year until our Lord returns,
