Congress' Costly Commitments
by Rick Boxx

Immediately after the health care bill was signed, AT&T announced $1 billion in write-offs related to the additional health care costs the new legislation would require.
Several in Congress were surprised by the immediate consequences of their legislation. Rather than accept responsibility, many called for AT&T to testify about these write-offs, even though they were complying with accounting standards.
In Judges 11:30 Jephthah made a vow to the Lord, "If you will give the Ammonites into my hand, then whatever comes out from the doors of my house to meet me when I return in peace from the Ammonites shall be the Lord's and I will offer it up for a burnt offering."
That vow later cost him the life of his daughter. Accountability is less painful when we ponder our commitments upfront.
