A Hard Faith Lesson
by Rick Boxx
April 15, 2010

There's a fine line between faith and prudence. According to The Kansas City Star, the Venerini Sisters in Worcester, Massachusetts learned that lesson the hard way.

These Roman Catholic nuns run a private school that needed an expansion. They were duped to believe that Michael Hlady, a fundraiser, had an anonymous donor for $3 million.

These nuns paid Mr. Hlady $370,000, in the hopes of obtaining $3 million, and even hired a contractor to begin construction. They now owe nearly $3 million with no means to pay.

Proverbs 12:27 teaches, "Whoever is slothful will not roast his game, but the diligent man will get precious wealth."

Faith is important, but it also requires that we be diligent and disciplined, not slothful, to verify what we are told.
