Challenging the Bible
By: Rick Boxx
April 24, 2012
While speaking to a group of business owners about ethics I built a case for using biblical principles as a guide. A man sitting near the front appeared agitated.
He interrupted me with a biting question. “I’m a Christian,” he said, “but biblical principles have been used to justify many wars, even Hitler used them in his book ‘Mein Kampf.’ So what principles are you talking about?”
Fortunately, the Holy Spirit rescued me and reminded me how Jesus responded to a similar question in Mark 12:30-31. He pointed to the two greatest commandments, “Love the Lord your God … and the second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Many distort God’s Word, but a great ethical test is measuring the questionable activity against loving God and loving others.
