An Ineffective Meeting

Early one morning I was meeting with a pastor who looked exhausted. He shared with me that he was at a public school board meeting until 3 am and had very limited sleep.

With exasperation, he said, “How can a group meet for 7 hours and not make a single decision?” When meetings are open-ended and not bound by time, it’s easy to ramble and never experience success.

Solomon wrote in Ecclesiastes 10, “Words from the mouth of the wise are gracious, but fools are consumed by their own lips. At the beginning their words are folly; at the end they are wicked madness – and fools multiply words.”

If you want an effective meeting, be clear as to your objective and have a defined time to limit the words spoken.
