A New Way to Lead
By: Rick Boxx

While watching the mini-series “A.D.,” I began to better understand that the Roman leaders of Jesus’ day believed that power came only with brutal force and arrogance. That made the words of Jesus, when He shared (what’s often called) the Sermon on the Mount or the Beatitudes, even more puzzling to those in His day.

In Matthew 5:5 Jesus said, “Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.”

Jesus was modeling and proclaiming servant leadership that included being gentle and humble, rather than arrogance and brutality. The difference was that Jesus’ kingdom is everlasting, while the Roman’s kingdom was temporal.

If you desire to have an everlasting impact, become a servant leader like Jesus, modeling gentleness and humility. Force may bring submission temporarily, but gentleness can build lasting followers.
