Adding Value
By: Rick Boxx

While launching a collaborative effort, I found myself leading a meeting of about 15 peers, many whom are better leaders than myself. Since it was an initial meeting I was peppered with questions like, “What’s the purpose?” and “Why should we participate?”

Regretfully, I became defensive trying to answer their questions. After trying to appease the group, I soon realized that if this was truly a collaborative effort, these were questions the group should answer.

After sharing my revelation, the group began taking more ownership. Their participation provided better insight and buy-in.

1 Corinthians 12:27 teaches, “Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.”

When working together collaboratively it’s good to remember that each person adds unique value. Invite them to participate.
