Drugs in the Workplace

In 1988, 13.2% of all workers tested by Quest Diagnostics had traces of drugs in their system. Fortunately, that number declined for 24 straight years falling to 3.7% in 2013.

Unfortunately, according to the Wall Street Journal, the trend reversed last year. Drug use is rising. One of the reasons cited is marijuana legalization. According to the article, marijuana now makes up almost half of all drugs used.

Although the Bible doesn’t reference marijuana, Proverbs 23 teaches, “Do not join those who drink too much wine or gorge themselves on meat, for drunkards and gluttons become poor, and drowsiness clothes them in rags.”

Employers desire productive, focused employees who can perform well. All drugs detract from employees giving their best. If you have a habit impacting your work, seek out a good counselor.
