The Pain of Excellence
by Rick Boxx
March 8, 2010

Radio teacher, Chip Ingram, shared about a time early in his ministry when he had a friend critique his teaching. The result of that conversation was a humbling time for Chip.

Chip was told that due to his God-given teaching gift, he had 85% of what was necessary to be an effective speaker. To reach 100%, however, it would require hard work.

Paul had a similar message for another budding teacher. In 1 Timothy 4:14-15 he told Timothy, "Do not neglect the spiritual gift within you ... Take pains with these things; be absorbed in them, so that your progress will be evident to all."

Sometimes we can be good at whatever God has gifted us with, but to be great takes some pain and becoming absorbed with going the extra mile.
