The Speed of Life

A study done in the 1970s by Darley and Batson recreated the Good Samaritan Bible story in a modern-day setting. These researchers tested two different groups’ willingness to stop and help someone in need. 

One group had a very tight time schedule before their next class, the other group had no time constraints. In their results, Darley and Batson concluded that limited time has a dramatically negative impact on people’s willingness to serve others. 

A profound quote came out of this study that says, “Ethics become a luxury as the speed of our daily lives increase.”

Proverbs 17:17 says, “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.”

In God’s economy, love is not dependent upon the amount of time available.
