Understanding Civil Disobedience-Part II

This week, due to Kentucky county clerk Kim Davis’ civil disobedience, we are discussing God’s view on complying with the law. Yesterday, we discussed that generally we are expected to obey our ruling authorities, but there are exceptions noted in scripture.
In Exodus 1, the king of Egypt tried to stop the rapid growth of Hebrews. He demanded that the Hebrew midwives kill all newborn Hebrew boys.
The midwives disobeyed the king, and lied to him. Instead of receiving God’s punishment we read, “So God was kind to the midwives and the people increased and became even more numerous. And because the midwives feared God, he gave them families of their own.”
God desires us to obey our authorities, but not to murder the innocent. Fearing God has a better eternal result.
