Grace isn’t picky. Grace doesn’t look for things that have been done which deserve love. Grace operates apart from the response or the ability of the individual. Moreover, grace is one-sided. Grace involves God generously giving Himself to someone who does not deserve it, can never earn it, and will never be able to repay it. And this is what makes the story of David and Mephibosheth so memorable: David stoops down and reaches out to one who represents everything this strong and famous king was not!
