“Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll” . . . in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain. (Revelation 5:4)
In this statement John mentioned “the Lion of the tribe of Judah and the Lamb” in the same breath. As the Lion, Jesus possesses a strong, ferocious demeanor that can stand up against whatever evil might come up against us. Yet Jesus is also the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. In his vision, John sees the image of Christ standing there with the marks of crucifixion and redemption on His body. Only Jesus, who is alive forevermore as our Savior and Lord, is worthy to open the book.
