Today's reading: 2 Peter 1:1-15
Today we move on to 2 Peter, which is a letter to the church at large. As Peter starts his letter, he provides those who are followers of Christ with a progressive list of qualities we should strive to possess and put into practice in order to have and then maintain a strong walk with God.
"Make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love." (vs. 5-7)
Reading through this list and then verse 10--which tells us that if we practice these qualities we will not fall--I was prompted to ask myself:
- Do I possess these qualities?
- Am I putting these qualities into practice? What are some examples?
- Am I growing in these areas, and how?
It was a good assessing exercise that helped me recognize those areas where I'm doing well as well as those areas where I need to work a little harder.
Now it's your turn to do a little self-assessing. Do you possess the qualities Peter writes of in verses 5-7? How are you putting them into practice? Do you believe you're growing in one or more of these areas? What's one example? Tami
