Today's reading: 1 Corinthians 10:1-22
Idolatry can take on many forms depending on our personalities and life situations. A few examples that come to mind are things like: our job, our intellect, our physical appearance, having fun, food, our bank account, cars or a home, sex, our children, a spouse, a girl or boy friend, clothes, sports... you get the picture.
One of the greatest temptations is giving in to our desires (making idols) instead of putting God first. Speaking from experience, this usually happens incrementally. We give in to what we think is a small temptation and then it begins to grow, which is one of the reasons why we often lose sight of how this particular thing has become an idol to us, pulling our focus off of God and serving Him fully. But we can overcome. "No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it" (vs. 13).
Take a look back and assess, with an honest eye, what some of the things are that have held idol status for you (or may still be holding that status). What hope and encouragement do you see in verse 13? Tami
