Respect and Follow
Today's reading: 1 Peter 2:13-17 (MSG)
While I typically use the ESV for my daily time in God's Word, I will often turn to other translations or versions of the Bible to see what wording they use and get a broader perspective on a passage. I did that today and was drawn to how The Message conveyed 1 Peter 2:13-17. I encourage you to take a look at this passage in more than one version today, but especially the ESV and The Message.
Respectfully submitting to those who are in authority over us can be challenging at times. Yet, it's exactly what God wants and expects us to do. 1 Peter 2:13-17 clearly puts before us the call to submit to those who have authority over us, pairing this with the call to do good because we are living servants of God. Peter concludes this segment with the command to:
"Treat everyone you meet with dignity. Love your spiritual family. Revere God. Respect the government." (vs. 17, MSG)
Would you say you are living out the charge Peter gives us in 1 Peter 2:17? What's an example of you treating those you've encountered "with dignity" in the past week? How have you revered God and shown love to your spiritual family? Is it your practice to pray for your government officials? Tami
