Trustworthy and True
The message that God and His Word are trustworthy and true came across loud and clear in 2 Peter 1:16-21. Peter makes sure his readers know that what he and the apostles are teaching is the result of being with Jesus while He was on earth ("but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. . ." vs. 16) and that every part of God's Word--every phrase, sentence, chapter, book--is from God.
"For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit." (vs. 21)
As I read this passage, I immediately thought of Paul's similar message in 2 Timothy 3:16-17, which says:
"All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work."
What does knowing that Peter was an eyewitness to Jesus's teaching, miracles, death and resurrection reveal about the Gospel message? How does knowing that every word of the Bible is "from God" impact your mindset about, approach to and confidence in God's Word? Tami
