Work NOT Required

Today's reading: Galatians 3:1-14; Ephesians 2:8-9 NLT

Our salvation is not dependent on us "working" to keep God’s law or us "working out" or "doing good things" on God’s behalf. Rather, the Gospel message is all about faith. If we believe in what Christ did for us (dying on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins) and place our faith in Him, we will be saved.

"God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can't take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it." (Ephesians 2:8-9, NLT)

Nothing we do in our own strength can ever save us, nor will it change our standing with God. That doesn't mean, however, that once we place our faith in Christ that we should stop doing good things. We belong to God and are dedicated to serving Him.

What helps you keep a proper perspective on working and doing good things for God? Based on today's scripture passages, how would you explain faith in Christ versus doing and being good to someone who doesn't yet know Christ? Tami
