{hands and feet}

get inspired to walk the walk

I wish you could have seen the look on my face when my pastor said the following statement one Sunday: "Each and every one of you has the ability to reach more people for Jesus than I ever could standing up here at the pulpit week after week."

Wow. I was stunned by such a bold claim. My mind immediately went to 3 women who inspire me to reevaluate this idea of interacting and engaging with those in my workplace and community.

Meet Katie. Katie is a fashionista with a finger on the pulse of upcoming trends. She has a rare talent of mixing and matching random items from discount stores and creating outfits that would rival anything worn on the red carpet. On the weekends she volunteers with an organization that helps homeless women get back on their feet by preparing them for job interviews. Katie's duties consist of outfitting these women in business attire and making them feel beautiful in the process. Through Katie, these women see the love of Jesus as she instills dignity back into their lives with a simple business suit and a vote of confidence.

Meet Beth. As the president of a service organization for young adult women, Beth has the rare opportunity to stand before a large group of females on a monthly basis and exemplify godly leadership. The young women look up to her as a mentor as they learn how to be a woman of influence with out succumbing to back stabbing or petty jealousy. Because she leads with integrity, Beth stands quite credible when she has the opportunity to talk about God with those she influences.

Meet Ann. Ann is a preschool teacher for children who are bused in from a rough side of town. Though she is a hard liner when it comes to discipline, there is never a shortage of educational fun in her classroom. Ann spends a good chunk of her own money to buy items for her children to enhance their learning because she feels that every child deserves a chance to start off on the right foot. Because she can not, by law, talk about Jesus with her school kids, Ann finds ways for her children to see God through an abundance of hugs and compassion with out ever uttering a word from the Bible.

Like these 3 inspirational women, with the Christmas season upon us, you and I have a unique opportunity to reach out. It is crucial that we find ways to verbalize the reason for the season. But our interaction with the world around us will be much more impactful if they can actually see -- through our actions and attitudes -- the very Christ whom we celebrate as the Savior of the world.

Let's take some time this week to brainstorm ways that we can live out what we believe. I would love to hear your thoughts as we brainstorm together so share your ideas over at She Seeks.

"For to us a child is born, to us a child is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." - Isaiah 9:6

"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven." - Matthew 5:14-16

Sarah will readily admit that she doesn't have the whole "being the hands and feet of Jesus" concept down pat. That is why she loves friends like those mentioned above who challenge her to more effectively live out the Kingship of Christ. You can find what she means by that on her blog LIVE IT OUT!
