For When You're Not Sure What to Do {an inspirational entry on asking}

Only one wall is between us. At least I prefer to believe that is all.

I've been invited to my neighbor's party. And even though it started twenty minutes ago, I still haven't RSVP'ed. Should I say yes and possibly meet their friend they think is a good match for me? Or say no, stay home and be comfortable.

Last I'd heard they weren't sure he'd even be in town. I'm hanging on this last tid-bit as my reason not to walk over and into their home. So I'm staying here on my couch with the wall separating our townhomes staring me down.

This wall: the only thing between me and him.

Actually, I know there's more standing in my way. Shyness and uncertainty block my path. And stand between giving in to the introvert in me.

The truth is, I really don't know if I should go. And knowing—really knowing—is of more importance than if I even want to go.

Each day we're presented with choices to juggle. Options to which we say yes or no. 'Cause really, saying yes is actually saying no to something else, isn't it? "Yes, comfort zone, I'll hold on to you = No, new friend, I won't give you a chance." Each yes and no can indelibly affect those around us.

I decide not to go.

Not going to the party leaves me plenty of time to ponder and come to this conclusion: from here on out, I don't want anything but wisdom to be the only thing between me and the answer. And therefore, as I embark on a new day tomorrow I'm grasping wisdom's hand and letting it lead me to the One to whom I will say, not my will, but Your will be done.

Something else...
"For the Lord gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding ... for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones. Then you will understand what is right and just and fair—every good path." ~Prov. 2:6, 8-9
