Completion of the Gates

After him Malchijah, one of the goldsmiths, made repairs as far as the house of the Nethinim and of the merchants, in front of the MiphkadGate, and as far as the upper room at the corner. And between the upper room at the corner, as far as the Sheep Gate, the goldsmiths and the merchants made repairs. - >Nehemiah 3:31

Previously in our study of Nehemiah we have spoken about the rebuilding of six of the ten gates around the walls of Jerusalem.  Now we will move onward to the last four gates. The Water Gate in Nehemiah 3:26, led from the old city of David, near the Gihon Spring, towards the Kidron Valley. This gate symbolically speaks of the Word of God in the life of the believer. Psalm 119 emphasizes the importance of God’s precepts––His Word, which is what we need to grow in our knowledge of Jesus Christ.

The Horse Gate in Nehemiah 3:28, stood north of the Water Gate near the temple area. The horse stands for power and endurance––as used in battle. It symbolically speaks of the believers’ spiritual warfare (Ephesians 6:10-18).

Then mentioned in Nehemiah 3:29, we find the East Gate, also known as the Golden Gate, which leads directly into the temple. According to Ezekiel 43:1-2, this is where our Lord and Savior will enter Jerusalem during the second coming––amazing!

The Gate of Miphkad––meaning appointed place orinspection is the last gate named in Nehemiah 3:31. It was located north east of the city.  This gate, speaks of the judgment of Jesus Christ.  When He returns, a Christian’s work will be evaluated and given rewards at the Bema Seat of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:9-10; Romans 14:10). There will also be the gathering of the nations, for a forty five day judgment before the millennial kingdom (Jeremiah 23:5; Matthew 25:32). Just as there is completion of the walls and gates in the days of Nehemiah, God will complete His work in our lives!

…being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.
~Philippians 1:6~
