Come to Worship Christ?
Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.”
Wise men, Magi, studied the stars using the natural science of astronomy. They had seen a sign, the star of a King, and decided to follow its path into Judea. It is believed they traveled in a large caravan of people for security. Once they arrived, they began to inquire among the people in Judea: “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews?” With all sincerity, these men had come to worship the newborn King.
The star continued to go before them. The wise men followed the star until it remained right over the house where the young Child was. Their long journey was rewarded; they had found the King! When the wise men came into the house, they saw Jesus with Mary, His mother. Immediately, all the wise men fell down and worshiped Jesus. In an act of obeisance, they presented precious gifts to the King. They gave precious gold––representing His deity––expensive frankincense and myrrh, which both related to His coming death (Matthew 2:9-11).
Jesus is worthy of our worship. He is our King. We need to adore Him! The writer of Psalm 95:6 implores: Oh come, let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before the Lordour Maker. This Psalm is known as a “Royal Psalm,” praising God as the King of His people.
It is important to understand that only those who know Christ as their Savior and King can truly come to worship Him.
“God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
