Intense Jealousy

And there was war again; and David went out and fought with the Philistines, and struck them with a mighty blow, and they fled from him.
Now the distressing spirit from the Lord came upon Saul as he sat in his house with his spear in his hand. And David was playing music with his hand. Then Saul sought to pin David to the wall with the spear, but he slipped away from Saul’s presence; and he drove the spear into the wall. So David fled and escaped that night.
1 Samuel 19:8-10

Once again, the distressing spirit from the Lord came upon Saul. He had an eye of jealousy towards David, and he watched him with intensity. Why was Saul jealous? Saul saw David’s life in the Spirit––God was with David.

For a time, Jonathan was able to persuade his father that David was loyal to him and the kingdom; but now, as the distressing spirit came upon Saul, he was overtaken with jealousy, and, with his spear, made yet another attempt to kill David. Saul was so persistent in his attempts to kill him.  David had no hostile feelings towards Saul. Sadly, he suffered the agony of having to flee from him, but he knew God was his protector.

Christians are blessed by God. When people see your lives in the Spirit, they too can become angry and jealous. Some people will hate you without a cause. They do not have Jesus, but they see Him working in your life. They see Jesus in you! Understand, when you shine your light for Jesus, there are those who will become jealous and try to extinguish your light (Mathew 5:16).

In such cases, what are we to do? Jesus said in Mathew 5:44: “…love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you.” It isonly as you walk in the Spirit that these things are possible.

For where there is jealousy and selfishness, there is disorder and every evil practice.
