Be Flexible

And Jonathan climbed up on his hands and knees with his armorbearer after him; and they [the Philistines]fell before Jonathan. And as he came after him, his armorbearer killed them. That first slaughter which Jonathan and his armorbearer made was about twenty men within about half an acre of land.
1 Samuel 14:13-14

Jonathan had his dependence on the Lord. While waiting for direction from God, he remained flexible and left enough room for God to work. In case he was wrong about the battle, he was open for God to show him a way of escape. If God was with him, he would stand and fight; or if God showed him otherwise, he and his armorbearer would retreat to safety. Whatever way the Lord chose to guide Jonathan would be exactly what he would do.

Once Jonathan discerned God’s perfect will, he went for it––straight into battle––he wasted no time. Jonathan and his armorbearer climbed the high precipices, scrambling on their hands and knees! Imagine that! Talk about endurance!

Jonathan, as a strong man of God, took full responsibility in leading the attack. He acted as captain, taking a front position; he did not stay in the background giving orders as some captains like to do. Jonathan and his armorbearer worked as a team in the fight. When Jonathan took a man down, his armorbearer came from behind and finished him off––he killed him.

In ministry, I love to work with people who are guided by the Lord and those who are flexible.  Many times God can change our plans, and He can lead us in another direction. Flexible people will not be broken; they bend with what God is doing. They flow.  People who are rigid and stiff crumble under pressure; they do not like changes in plans.

Blessed are the flexible, for they shall not be broken.
