Man’s Futile Wisdom

For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, “He catches the wise in their own craftiness” and again, “The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile.” Therefore let no one boast in men… - 1 Corinthians 3:19-21

The Apostle Paul quoted from Isaiah 44:25, which tells us how God makes the worldly wise, utterly foolish: …Who turns wise men backward, and makes their knowledge foolishness.  Paul cuts through the deception of worldly wisdom with the truth of God’s character. God is all wise, and, in comparison, man’s wisdom is not only foolish, but futile––empty.

Paul described the Lord’s character in a letter to Timothy:Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God who alone is wise… (1Timothy 1:17). God is Creator.  He used infinite wisdom when He created the earth: The Lord by wisdom founded the earth; by understanding He established the heavens(Proverbs 3:19).  It would be wise to fear God, which means to stand in awe of who He is: The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

God, in His wisdom, chose to have the simple message of the cross preached throughout the world as the way of salvation: For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God(1 Corinthians 1:18).It is foolish to reject the Gospel! Yet, today, if a person stood and started to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ on a college campus, there would be many complaints. People hate the message of the cross; it offends them.

What is sad is that the professors who teach Bibliology classes in the colleges have become liberal; they do not believe in the inspiration of the Word of God. Many professors in the colleges think they are really smart, but, really they are very foolish. They only have limited knowledge, God has eternal knowledge, and He has always existed.

To God our Savior, who alone is wise,be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and forever. Amen.
~Jude 25~
