Comparing Spiritual Things

These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.  - >1 Corinthians 2:13

Imagine if the Jewish leaders would have understood the Scriptures; they would never have put Jesus Christ to death on the cross. They crucified the Messiah, Christ, because they were ignorant and foolish. The Pharisees and Scribes were the religious leaders, but they did not understand the Scriptures or the supernatural things of God.

Yet, Paul, Peter and James had an incredible factor in their lives––the wisdom of God. Paul spoke about the interaction between the Holy Spirit and the Word of God. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, all believers can now compare spiritual things with spiritual. As we study and memorize God’s Word, the Holy Spirit educates us. When we share the Gospel with other people, the Holy Spirit is able to bring back into our minds the Scriptures. It is as if we have become walking encyclopedias.

In some churches, the pastor will teach topically. He chooses his favorite topics in the Bible to teach, but then you only have a part of the Gospel. When you read the 39 books of the Old Testament and the 27 books of the New Testament, you will go through every subject, as you cover the entire Bible from Genesis to Revelation. This is a balanced teaching of the Bible, because believers receive the full counsel of God.

Christians can open up their Bibles and compare prophetical Scriptures concerning Christ in the Old Testament with the fulfillment of Scripture in the New Testament.

Can you believe how simple that is? Simple!

Proper understanding of the Scriptures comes only through the Holy Spirit.
~Martin Luther~
