I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able… - 1 Corinthians 3:2

The Apostle Paul wrote about three different types of people: The non-believer, the Spirit filled believer, and the carnal Christian. A carnal Christian straddles the fence; they are influenced by their fleshly desires. They want to be a spiritual person, but at the same time, they lean more towards being a natural man––more carnal than spiritual.

Paul wanted to reach the world for Christ, but as he looked at the church in Corinth, he saw so many carnal people. They had their own agendas in life, created law suits against each other, were tolerating sexual immorality and caused confusion over spiritual gifts. Paul really exhorted the church about their carnality, because they were keeping other people from coming to Christ, instead of bringing them to Christ! What happened to their maturity?

Carnality is a reality in the church today––big time.  When people have problems, I let them talk freely; and after about five minutes, I know exactly where they are at spiritually––just by listening to them.  They are usually immature. The Church lacks maturity. A mature Christian creates unity in the body of Christ.

Like Paul, I want to reach the world for Jesus Christ. I thank God that I get opportunities to see and speak to people in the world every day. I do not want to lose contact with the outside world. I want to know what is going on in the world so I can minister to non-believers. I desire to see people’s hearts. I want to see what they think about the Church and about everything else that is currently going on in the world.

Are you keeping others away from Christ because of your carnality?

I believe that one reason why the Church of God at this present moment has so little influence over the world is because the world has so much influence over the Church.
~C.H Spurgeon~
