Called by God’s Will
Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God… - >1 Corinthians 1:1
Notice how Paul, in his introduction, told us how he was “called” to be an apostle of Jesus Christ. His apostleship was through the will of God. An apostle means an “ambassador”––one who is going to be sent. Paul was sent to preach the Gospel to the Gentiles (Acts 9:15).
It is important to know God’s will for your life. The day I got saved, I never doubted that I was in God’s will. At that time, I decided to submissively place myself under Chuck Smith at Calvary Chapel, to sit, listen and learn from his teaching. I never promoted myself but waited on the Lord.
Then one day, Chuck wanted to speak with me in his office. I shared with him my testimony––how I had started a small Bible study in my home in Baldwin Park. I had invited all my friends who had just become saved. Chuck just smiled. Then he asked some of the men at the church to come into the office. They all laid hands on me and prayed. A couple of months later, I was ordained through Calvary Chapel––I never asked. Then I attended their first Shepherd’s School. That is how I became the pastor of Calvary Chapel West Covina––amazing!
Many men have left our church and started other Calvary Chapels. It is the Lord who does the work through them. The Lord chooses the man and places an anointing on him. God sees the desire and passion of these different men, and He sends them out. God already knows the people who need to go to that church.
Do you know God’s will in your life? You have to have the anointing and the call of God in your life. It is the anointing on your forehead––the work of God’s Holy Spirit in your life.
It is God who anoints us, sets His seal on us and puts His Spirit in our hearts as a deposit. No church hierarchy or committee can do that. Only God. Our life and ministry reflect God's anointing or lack of it.
