Busyness Aside

Luke 6:6-7

On another Sabbath he went into the synagogue and was teaching, and a man was there whose right hand was shriveled. The Pharisees and the teachers of the law were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely to see if he would heal on the Sabbath.

One of the challenges for God’s people in every generation is to recognize God at work around us. Unfortunately, the most religious of us can be the least aware. That was certainly true in the New Testament. The people who were the best trained in the Scriptures, who orchestrated the religious feasts and festivals, who were responsible for temple worship and the sacrifices―they almost exclusively missed Jesus. They not only failed to recognize Him, they stood as His opponents. I would like to tell you that was a first-century phenomenon; but throughout the history of the church, typically, the most religious people are the ones who have been the most resistant to what God is doing. Let’s encourage each other to be aware of God’s presence and activity, both in our personal lives and as we see Him working in the world, and praise Him for it.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, Your work has no beginning or end, and I know You are at work today—in me, through me, and around me. Holy Spirit, open my eyes to see. I don’t want to be caught up in religious activity and miss the importance of my relationship with You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
