Eye on the Prize
1 Corinthians 9:24 (NIV®)
Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.
If we’re going to do something extraordinary for the Lord and finish well, we’re going to need perseverance. I admit that can be a struggle for me because I like to see results quickly. But I understand the benefit of it, so I work on incorporating it into my toolkit. If you and I are going to complete what God called us to do, we’ve got to find a way to persevere. Most of us have a good story about how we began our God-journey, but too many of us don’t have much to say about what happened after that. If you’re in that category, I encourage you to shift your focus to how you want to end the race and then run with that in mind. Because the prize doesn’t go to the people who start—the prize goes to the people who finish.
Heavenly Father, teach me perseverance when I am tempted to give up. Sharpen my vision when I cannot see Your path clearly and am tempted to go my own way. Give me strength to run my race with the end clearly in focus. And with every step I take, may I bring glory to You. In the name of Jesus, amen.
