Find Quiet - Today with Allen Jackson - October 23, 2019

Psalm 77:12 (NIV®)

I will meditate on all your works and consider all your mighty deeds.

Typically when we think of meditation, we think of somebody lighting incense and getting into a contorted position that would send me to a chiropractor. That’s not how I understand meditation. Meditation in Scripture simply means to be quiet and think about the things of the Lord. One of the maladies of our generation is constant noise. With music, podcasts, and streaming everything, we can just keep the ear buds in and we’re good to go. We live with so much noise that we don’t know what to do with quiet. Let’s try to set aside a few minutes every day to sit in silence and meditate on God’s works and mighty deeds. Read a psalm out loud and say, “God, I just want to thank You for all You have done.” It will change your life.

Heavenly Father, I am guilty of wanting the distraction of noise. Forgive me for the times when I have given up time meditating on You for the sake of aimless chatter in my ears. Give me a yearning for stillness and quiet, and show me how to seek You in those moments. In Jesus’ name, amen.
