Must Go Moments

Matthew 16:21

From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.

This verse says that Jesus began to explain to His disciples that he “must go” to Jerusalem. Jesus also had free will; if He hadn’t, He wouldn’t have been a legitimate Savior. Jesus understood that to complete God’s purposes for His life, He must go. It was a difficult path, yet it was a part of God’s invitation before Him. God gives us a free will, and we can choose to follow His plan or lead our lives in rebellion. The Scripture says that we were created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. You and me—God has a plan for your life and mine. Does your life with the Lord include an awareness that there are some things God has put before you that you must do? We tend to take the Word of God and twist it a bit and tell God what He must do. But if we are going to find God’s best for our lives and fulfill those things for which we were created, we need room in our imagination for the “must goes” of our journey. Sometimes they may not be “Yay, God” moments, but they will bear great fruit in both time and eternity.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, I choose to serve You, to give You first place in my life. How grateful I am that You have created me for a purpose in Your Kingdom. Help me to follow You daily, Lord, so that I can fulfill the plans You have for me. Give me a willing spirit, even when facing the “must go” invitations you place before me. In the name of Jesus, amen.
