Steadfast in the Storms
James 1:12 (NIV®)
Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.
The stories we teach children are the stories we pray never happen to them. We tell them about Jonah and the whale and pray they are never swallowed by a large sea creature. We tell them about Daniel in the lions’ den and pray they never climb into the big cat enclosure at the zoo. We tell them about David and Goliath and pray they are never challenged by a nine-foot bully. We know from our own experience that trials will come, so we cultivate in them the kind of faith in the living God that will sustain them through life’s challenges. In an age-appropriate way, let’s teach our children that in situations that are less than ideal, God will be with us and bless us for trusting Him and staying strong.
THINK ABOUT IT
Have you faced challenging times when you stood strong with the Lord, and He blessed you for it? If you have not told the young people in your life about the Lord’s faithfulness to you, find an opportunity to do so.
Heavenly Father, prepare me to persevere through the trials of life in a way that I will receive the crown of life promised to those who stand faithful to Your Word. Give me the strength of character of those You have told us about in the Bible. Let Your Holy Spirit bring me the necessary understanding to be faithful when things don’t go the way I expect them to go. I thank You for giving me the Helper for the journey ahead. In Jesus’ name, amen.
