“But He gave him no inheritance in it, not even a foot of ground, and yet, even when he had no child, He promised that He would give it to him as a possession, and to his descendants after him.” (Acts 7:5; NASB95)
Abraham was a man of immense faith. To trust God when He says “move” but gives no detail, to know that the land is yours even though you do not own “even a foot of ground,” to know that you will be a father of a great nation even though you are old and have no children—all of this is great faith.
I know that Heaven will be my home and that I am an heir of God and a joint heir with Jesus. Currently I only have an earnest deposit on that inheritance, the earnest being the Holy Spirit. I have the Word of God, never failing, which assures me that someday Christ shall return, the dead in Christ shall be raised, and believers who remain shall be caught up together with Him in the clouds to be forever with Him. For those without the Holy Spirit, this sounds like Science Fiction gone wild. For those with the Spirit, it is our “Blessed Hope”.
“For as many as are the promises of God, in Him they are yes; therefore also through Him is our Amen to the glory of God through us” (2 Corinthians 1:20; NASB95). Rejoice in the unshakable “Yes!” that is ours through Christ Jesus! Though we do not have “even a foot of ground” in our ultimate promise, we have it all in Christ.
