A Mother's Role as a Prayer Warrior

A Mother's Role as a Prayer Warrior

Any woman, who has the blessed honor of birthing a child, has the immediate responsibility of caring physically for that child to the best of her ability.  But for a Christian mother, one who knows the Lord Jesus personally as her Lord and Savior, this responsibility is also extended to the spiritual realm.  Initiating at conception, this mother has the duty and obligation to "stand in the gap" for her child.  She has the blessed opportunity to intercede for her child in prayer.

First, and foremost, however, is the need for every Christian mother to keep her own Christian walk right with God, endeavoring daily to read His Word, seek His face, and live for Him.  With her Savior first in her life, He will give her the grace and wisdom not to "follow [her] own spirit", her own fleshly desires and comforts, but rather, make her family a priority.  By seeking to put Christ first, she will also see evident signs of His presence and workings. Instead of "having seen nothing," she will have the encouragement of witnessing firsthand testimony of His divine leading in her own life.

When we, ourselves, are right with the Lord, we can then "make up the hedge for our children" through prayers of intercession on their behalf. We should pray for their personal salvation, for God's blessing on their lives, for the Lord to "fill them with the knowledge of His will" (Col.1:9), for His divine leading and guidance, and for His protective arms to encircle them and keep them from evil and harm.  If we do not "stand in the gap" for our children, who will?  God entrusted our children to us to raise in the "nurture and admonition of the Lord," to equip them for spiritual battle, to bring honor and glory to His name.  Just as we cannot "stand in the battle" without the armor of God, neither can our children.  Before their eyes are open to the realization that God is not just their Creator, but that He is also their Savior, they are unequipped for the power of Satan - "Your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour." (I Peter 5:8).

God is truly attentive to the prayers of a loving and caring mother!  His listening ear is ever available to the woman "that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before [Him]" (Ez. 22:30) for her children. Let not our eternal legacy to our children be one of "Woe" - "And I sought for a [woman] among them... but I found none" (Ez.22:30). Rather, strive for the reward and joy of having been an intercessor - "For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior" (I Tim. 2:3).

A Mom's Prayer for Her Child's Future

A Mom's Prayer for Her Child's Future

Father, You are powerful to hold the future in Your hands. The direction of our lives is no more predictable to us than our children’s lives. We trust You with all of it, and praise You for the perfect way You have designed each human life.

We praise You for blessing us with motherhood, and the intentional way it matures our faith in You. Your all-knowing hand pulls families together in Your time and will, which is perfect and unchanging. There is no love that is an accident or outside Your will, because You are love. Each child, each person was created on purpose with purpose. Praise You that we get to take part in the greatest love story of all time.

Thank you for our children. They bless us in ways that our hearts know but our heads cannot make sense of. The forgiving grace in our hearts for our children is only a thread of the love You have for us… and them. Help us to remember that You loved our babies before we did and infinitely more than we do. We can trust You with their lives, and ask the strength of Your Holy Spirit to help us lead them to Your loving arms.

Forgive us for our human strain of impatience, control, worry and anxiety. The very things we try to prevent our children from suffering sometimes happen anyway, and that’s a very hard thing to understand. We ask You to help us trust You more. Bless our hearts with great faith, daily steps of obedience, and lives full of evident trust in Your love.

Bless us with reciprocal love from our children. Help us to love them through all circumstances with appropriate apology and steadfast discipline. May the love we show for You be evident to them. Bless our lives to uphold Your truth and the testimony of Your Son--Our Savior--Jesus, to the best of our ability on this earth. Send Your Spirit to help us remember Your Word, and applicably pull it from the tucked-in places of our hearts, to point our children in the right direction. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

A Prayer for Your Children

A Prayer for Your Children

“Commit your way to the LORD, trust also in Him, and He will do it.” - Psalm 37:5

God is in control. When you pray you release Him to do what only He can do in your child's life. And when you pray, He can mold your parenting style so you can do what He has called you to do in raising your child.

Lord, I release my children to Your care and protection, and I relinquish my will for them in favor of Your will. I know I can’t go everywhere my child goes, but I know You do. Please protect them. Give us wisdom for how to parent well. Give us peace in Your goodness toward our children and your love for us. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

A Prayer to Seek God First

A Prayer to Seek God First

In Matthew 6:33 Jesus told His followers to “seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” (ESV). As we seek Him and His purposes above everything else, our lives will be prioritized and we won’t fall prey to worthless pursuits, meaningless obsessions, and unintentionally serving the god of self, all of which make us parents our children won’t want to be around.

Lord, help me to seek You –and Your purposes – above any other pursuit in life. I can easily be distracted by the temporary but keep me focused on the eternal. Help me to not just talk of a relationship with You but truly live it in my daily priorities and actions. Although there are things I want for my family, that I can tend to stress about, You are aware of them all, and Your Word promises that when I put You first, You will take care of everything else, according to what You know is best for us. Help me to truly believe that and live by it so my children will place their confidence in You, as well.

A Prayer to Guard Your Mouth

A Prayer to Guard Your Mouth

Lord, “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of [my] mouth, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen” (Ephesians 4:29, NIV). Lord, I don’t want my children to detect a critical spirit in me, or jealousy, or even a lack of faith or discontent. So, guard my mouth so I don’t talk critically of anyone. And when it comes to how I address – and correct – my children, help me to build them up rather than tear them down. When they make mistakes or fail miserably, help me to discern when they need love, grace, and forgiveness instead of a lecture on what they should’ve done differently.

A Mom's Prayer to Stop Worrying

A Mom's Prayer to Stop Worrying

Scripture instructs: “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7, NLT).

Lord, help me not to worry about anything, but to instead, and immediately, pray about everything that concerns me about my children and anything else. I want to experience Your peace that exceeds anything we can understand. As I display that peace, my children will see that I really do trust You with everything and my faith is not just a “talk” but a real-life walk. By praying about what would otherwise concern me, I am teaching my children to go to You in prayer instead of worrying, too. And Lord, help me not to just hide away and pray about what concerns me but to verbally pray aloud, at times, so my children see my default mode is to take it to God in prayer rather than flip out, freak out, or fret.

A Prayer for Wisdom in Parenting

A Prayer for Wisdom in Parenting

As you parent, you can live a praying life. You can parent out of the resources of heaven. The most important parenting skill you can hone is how to live synced to the heart of Jesus. “He who fears the Lord has a secure fortress, and for his children it will be a refuge” (Proverbs 14:26).

As you grow in Christ, your descendants will be the beneficiaries.  Your children will be enriched because your heart is connected to the heart of Jesus. Your children will have the advantage of being parented out of the Storehouse of all wisdom (Colossians 2:3). The best parenting advice I can give is this: Live synced to the heart of Jesus.

Jesus, I look to You for the wisdom I need in any moment. What takes me by surprise does not take You by surprise. You are always ready to make a direct deposit from Your heart to mine. Teach me to live so synced to Your heart that heaven’s resources are always at my disposal. Amen.

A Prayer for Your Prodigal

A Prayer for Your Prodigal

Create in _________________ a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within him/her (Psalm 51:10). You will increase ________________'s honor and comfort ____________ once again (Psalm 71:20-21). A Prayer to Help Your Kids Love God's Word

A Prayer to Help Your Kids Love God's Word

Begin by seeking the Lord today. Read His Word daily. Connect with your church. Make God’s Word a necessary part of your daily life and watch Him renew a hunger and thirst for Him today. Allow your kids to be a part of that process. Allow them to see the importance and joy of God’s Word in your life. By the grace of God, may they learn to lean on God and develop a growing love for Him and His Word.

Lord, help me embrace Your Word. But most of all, help me to live it. Help me be the kind of parent who will inspire my children to please You, because that’s what they see being lived out in my life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

A Prayer for Hope in the Tough Stuff

A Prayer for Hope in the Tough Stuff

“We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.” Hebrews 6:19

Dear Lord,

I’m struggling with uncertainty. I crave security, but everything seems so fragile – relationships, circumstances, and life. It scares me to see my child broken. I want to fix this problem in his life, yet I can’t. I’m realizing how little control I have – and how desperately I need You.

I praise you, God, for being a rock. You never change, and that’s my comfort. I know today’s trial is just a part of my child’s story, not the end of his story. I know you have a great plan for him, one that can ultimately bring good from this struggle and turn his pain into joy.

I place my hope in You and cling to Your promises. Although the world is uncertain, I’m certain You are in control. Thank you for the hope of heaven that we receive through Jesus. I pray His light shines brightly in this dark season to guide me and my child toward You.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
