Hillsong United’s Benjamin William Hastings Launches Solo Career

Hillsong United singer and songwriter Benjamin William Hastings is launching a solo music career.

Hastings’ debut album is self-titled and includes 25 tracks.

“I started (the album) quite a while ago,” he said. “I mean, some of the songs have been in existence in some form for about 10 years, but I really started working on the record about three years ago,” Hastings said, according to CBN News.

“I guess I just wanted it to show all the sides of myself,” he added. “As I wrote one song, I was like, ‘Well, I can’t write that and not write about this.”

He said he wrote about his personal struggles, “almost oversharing because I was like, this is how I’m feeling.”

“If I can just be entirely transparent about it, maybe it’s going to help someone else.”

According to The Christian Beat, Hastings’ writing and vocals are featured on Hillsong UNITED’s RIAA Certified Gold single “So Will I (100 Billion X)” and Hillsong Worship’s widely acclaimed “Seasons.”

Hastings is also the songwriter behind Cory Asbury’s No. 1 single “The Father’s House,” UNITED’s “Captain,” the church song “O Praise the Name (Anástasis),” and Brandon Lake’s “Gratitude.”

One of his first singles from his debut solo album is titled “So Help Me God.”

“I just sat at the piano, and I started singing, ‘I’ve got to get through this, I’m gonna get through this, so help me God.’

“We spend our lives pilgrimaging towards and ascending the mountain, trying to be closer to what it is to be Christ-like, isn’t it beautiful that while every other god puts themselves up on this high pedestal and said ‘you could never be like me,’ our God, Jesus, came down the mountain like a pilgrim in reverse, and met us at the bottom and then helps us walk all the way back up.”

Hastings will perform many of his hits, and new songs live on the “God is Good Tour” with Cody Carnes. Then in March and April, he will tour with Brandon Lake.

Currently, Hastings is performing on the Chris Tomlin x UNITED tour.
