Politics as Usual

The cynicism in Washington is sometimes beyond belief. Some in the media and some liberal Democrats on Capitol Hill are questioning whether politics played a part in the announcement of the arrest of a man who is charged with trying to create a so-called "dirty bomb." I liked what White House spokesman Ari Fleischer said: "These very few people who want to make such outlandish political accusations represent the most cynical among the most partisan, and they’re not to be taken seriously."

Isn’t it strange that the left never raised such questions about Bill Clinton’s bombing of an aspirin factory in Iraq on the evening of Congressional impeachment hearings?

Remember that the left in the media and in Congress hates President Bush. They still think he’s an illegitimate president and that Al Gore should be in the White House (wouldn’t you love to see him running the war against terrorism?). They are using everything they can to bring down the President’s high approval ratings, which are still in the mid-70’s. I think this strategy will backfire on them and, hopefully, cost them dearly in the fall election. I’m Cal Thomas in Washington.
