Give Him Your Life
Boy bands, move over. We R Perswaded, a Boston-area sextet, is ready to usher in a new era of more mature male harmony groups. If you can get past the name, their musically diverse disc, Give Him Your Life, will catch your ear. Blending jazz, gospel, R&B and a cappella harmonies, the group even slips in a Latin beat on songs like Happiness.
If you are a fan of the famous gospel sextet Take 6 and their late 1980s hit Spread Love, We R Perswaded is right up your alley. In fact, Give Love could be considered Spread Love, Part II. Vocally, Give Love is one of the groups best songs.
Cleanse Me Lord and Give Me A Clean Heart are well-written, heartfelt ballads that sound like a cross between something youd hear as part of a stage play and something a soloist and choir would sing in church.
Of special note is Keep The Faith, featuring the vocal talents of Robert Kennedy III, Kevin Golding and Sheldon Kennedy. The song is a motivational tour de force. Fred Hammond and Kirk Franklin fans will be especially pleased by the songs upbeat, new school R&B/gospel sound.
With a little fine-tuning, We R Perswaded should have a bright future. Their unusual name may need changing for the group to be taken seriously in the business. And their CDs graphic design and photos need improvement. (Im a stickler for exceptional design and packaging.) However, since they are not with a major label, these things can be somewhat overlooked. What matters most is the music, and Give Him Your Life shows that We R Perswaded has the vocal chops to compete with other harmony groups out there.
