Watch, Read and Listen

Laura MacCorkle

We all have so many choices when it comes to our down time each week.  So what's a gal or guy to do with all this free time?  I have some ideas of what you could watch, read or listen to these days. …

What to Watch … New on DVD this week are "The Pursuit of Happyness" (very worth the rental fee), "Happy Feet," "Night at the Museum" and "Children of Men."  Check out our reviews of them in our Movies channel before you make your viewing decisions.  An informed viewer is a happier viewer.

What to Read … I just started reading Debra White Smith's "What Jane Austen Taught Me About Love & Romance" (Harvest House Publishers).  Ladies (and gentlemen, if you're brave), this is a great read.  Especially if you enjoy the wit and wisdom and fabulous characters found in Jane Austen novels.  Or movie adaptations, for that matter.

I'm also reading and studying Luke 22 in my Bible study right now.  It would be a great place to start in your preparation for the upcoming Holy Week.

What to Listen to … I popped in the "Glory Revealed" (Reunion Records) disc this week and found myself loving it.  It's modern worship, for sure, but it's not all synthesizers and breathy vocals.  Says in the liner notes that it's "rootsy, Americana music with moving Scripture to create a worshipful album of all new songs delivered by some of the biggest names in Christian music today."  It reminds me a bit of Essential Records' "City on a Hill" recordings.  And maybe has the freshness of what "Exodus" had when it came out almost 10 years ago now.
