More Beautiful You

In a nutshell:? Seven years ago, Jonny Diaz enrolled at Florida State University armed with a baseball scholarship and the determination to follow in his brothers' Major League footsteps. One year later, he traded his glove for a guitar and recorded the first of three successful independent CDs. (Christian Music Today's Indie Spotlight gave his 2007 album four stars.) Clearly, his career shift was more than mere passing hobby.

However, with Jason Mraz-like wordplay and charming pop sensibilities, the kitschy wordsmith's national debut is nearly indistinguishable from many of his sunny singer/songwriter contemporaries. In addition, More Beautiful You's positive themes of acceptance and love are standard fare. Even so, the title track is already saturating radio and climbing the charts, proving that Diaz is one to watch in Christian pop.
