Jesus Is a Friend of Mine

Reviewed by Robert Ham
Style: Feather-light pop/rock from the late '70s/early '80s Top tracks: "Jesus Is a Friend of Mine," "The Opened Door," "Oh Happy Day"

Arena Rock Recording takes another step in its slow slide from well-regarded indie rock label to revivalist Christian rock label with the release of this EP. Taking five songs from this group's 1981 limited press LP, this disc captures the infectious spirit and goofy energy of this freewheeling New York group. Sonseed's music may come off as hopelessly dated (a mixture of light rock/AOR a la Fleetwood Mac and the blinding positivity of Up With People), but as a history lesson in the early days of radio-ready Christian pop, Jesus Is a Friend of Mine is invaluable.
