Love and War

Reviewed by Andrea Bailey Willits
Style: Anthemic chick rock Top tracks: "Beautiful Ending," "Our Worlds Collide," "Tears Fall"

In a nutshell: Don't mess with BarlowGirl. Already known for their firm stance on modesty, purity and the Great Commission, the fiery sisters officially declare battle with their latest release, Love and War. Imploring a generation to wake up and seize God's call on their lives ("Come Alive," "Love Is Marching," "Open Heavens"), the Barlows lift pretty harmonies in their call to take a stand against mediocrity, loneliness, and media influences. Amid rock guitars and plucky beats shine a few vertical love songs like "Our Worlds Collide" and striking ballad "Tears Fall," the girls' take on abortion. Alas, any attempt at introspection falls flat, and their punk-edged chick rock sound is getting a bit predictable.? But BarlowGirl is on a mission toward godly devotion, not ingenuity, and therein they succeed.
