Merck's Miracle Cure
by Rick Boxx

Generosity can be hard to find in some organizations. Merck & Co., however, has been a bright light to millions in Africa.

In 1987, Merck discovered a medical solution to river blindness, a parasitic disease affecting millions. An ethical dilemma arose; the drug costs could never be recouped, because the only people impacted were poor.

Merck had every financial reason to shelf the product, but they didn't. Instead, they offered to provide the drug for free as long as it takes to eradicate the disease.

Proverbs 19:17 teaches, "He who is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward him for what he has done."

Thank God for Merck's generosity. True charity may be costly, but don't forget about God's rewards.
