More Than Words | Psalm 115:1 | Devotional
Psalm 115:1 Not to us, O LORD, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness.
Self-promotion and self-absorption are signs of the times. From the excesses of infamous executives, to the chest-beating celebrations of quarterback sacks and touchdown passes (isn’t that what they get paid a lot of money to do?), to those who have to have things their way, many live their lives in the headlines, on the jumbotrons, and in extra-small packages wrapped up in oneself. But for those who follow hard after Christ things are (or should be) different.
It really is not about us. Really, it’s not. Our lives should be like a mirror—not absorbing—but reflecting the glory to God. Paul wrote, that it is in him we live and breathe and have our being. Every heartbeat, and everything that the cumulative heartbeats produce, is a result of God’s love and faithfulness.
So remember, whatever God graciously allows you to partner with Him to accomplish, it’s not about you. Really it’s not!
Father, thank you for the privilege of partnering with You in meaningful work and ministry. But Lord, make us reflectors, not absorbers, of any glory or honor. In Christ’s name. Amen.
